about stacey

Hi, I’m Stacey Steele, a Registered Psychologist based in Alberta, Canada, and an EMDR and trauma specialist with a deep commitment to inclusive, transformative healing. I support adults through individual therapy and EMDR intensives, helping them process trauma and reclaim their inner resilience. My clients often come to me after experiencing childhood abuse, emotional neglect, complicated family systems and intergenerational trauma, intimate partner violence, sexual trauma, grief,  betrayal, or deep identity shifts.

My practice is proudly trans-affirming, queer-inclusive, and anti-oppressive, and I’m a member of the Skipping Stone Trans Affirming Network. I’m dedicated to providing care that honours the full spectrum of human identity and experience.

I bring lived experience, advanced clinical training, and a heartfelt belief in your capacity for change to every session. Healing isn’t linear and you don’t have to do it alone.

Therapy with Me

Whether we’re meeting in person in my Medicine Hat office, virtually across Alberta, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, or connecting through an EMDR intensive, I aim to create a space where you feel seen, supported, and grounded in your own agency.

My work is informed by the “common factors” approach to change in therapy:

  • 40% is what you bring and do outside of sessions
  • 30% is the quality of our relationship
  • 15% is the specific technique
  • 15% is your belief in the process (Asay & Lambert, 1999)

I lead with presence, empathy, and honesty. I’ll help you unpack painful patterns, reconnect with your strengths, and try new ways of being. At times I may gently witness. Other times I may challenge you to step into the work more fully. Either way, I’ll be beside you.

Consultation & Support for Clinicians

If you’re a clinician seeking consultation, I offer both individual and group options focused on:

  • EMDRIA certification and skill development
  • Complex trauma and dissociation
  • Trauma-informed, values-driven private practice growth
  • Burnout recovery and sustainable clinical work through ReLit Practice™

Whether you’re looking to strengthen your technical confidence, navigate complex cases, or realign your work with your values and long-term wellbeing, I’m here to support your growth with clarity, care, and practical guidance.

A Bit More About Me

Before I became a psychologist, I was the “go-to” support person in many people’s lives. As a single parent, I pursued formal training to turn that calling into a career. My own trauma recovery journey taught me that healing is possible. It is also messy, nonlinear, and full of beauty.

I believe:

  • Change happens when the pain of staying the same becomes greater than the pain of change
  • It’s never too late to recover
  • Children and animals often show us what truly matters
  • Everyone deserves dignity, equity, and the grace of redemption
